About the Password Generator

Almost every large password leak comes from two causes: passwords chosen by humans (patterns, names, keyboard walks) and password reuse across sites. A random generator removes the first problem, and a password manager makes reuse unnecessary.

The strength meter shown here is based on real entropy — length multiplied by the information content of the character pool — rather than cosmetic rules, so adding length visibly moves the needle while swapping symbols for other symbols does not.

Frequently asked questions

Are these passwords safe to use?

Yes. They are generated on your device with the browser's cryptographic random number generator (the same API used for encryption keys) and are never transmitted, logged or stored. Close the tab and they are gone.

How long should a password be?

At least 16 characters for anything important. Length matters more than weird symbols: a 20-character password of mixed case and digits is far harder to crack than a short one full of symbols.

Why not just use one tricky password everywhere?

Because one breached site exposes every account you own. Pair unique generated passwords with a password manager, and turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
